2 Complimentary Camps
An 8 night safari combining 2 camps in 2 different National Parks
Join us for an exciting 8 night Zambian safari offering some of the best wildlife viewing and beautiful African scenery of the Luangwa Valley. Visit Flatdogs Camp in South Luangwa National Park for a total of 4 nights followed by 4 nights at Luambe Camp in Luambe National Park. The South Luangwa National Park is probably the most famous of all Zambia’s wildlife havens and is deservedly considered amongst the elite of African wilderness regions. Fantastic leopard populations, hippo, lion and elephant are complimented by a healthy range of other species too. Luambe National Park is located on the eastern bank of the Luangwa River, halfway between South and North Luangwa National Park and is one of the oldest protected areas in Zambia. Because of its remote location on the eastern bank of the Luangwa river, the Park has remained essentially unchanged – largely because it’s off the beaten track, a secluded, tranquil place not covered by the usual tourist routes. Luambe is situated between the larger Luangwa national parks to its north and south, however, to those who visit it Luambe is often considered to be the jewel in the crown.
“One of the most unique and unforgettable experiences I have ever had on safari (and I’ve spent more of life in Africa.) I am very happy to have discovered Luambe Camp, a truly amazing place to soak up the wilderness and immerse your self in nature. The sleep-out in the bush is a memory I will treasure forever…. cannot wait to come back for more!”

Quick Facts about the Luangwa Discovery Safari
A brief overview of what to expect on this package
“Flatdogs Camp was wonderful, and being interrupted from time to time by large elephants wandering through was magical. Our twice daily safari drives always produced something special, from stalking leopards, a cloud of carmine bee eaters, mating lions, a hyena den with sunbathing pups and a large pack of wild dogs.”

Your Luangwa safari experience will begin with 3 nights at Flatdogs Safari Camp
When you arrive at Mfuwe Airport, you will be met by a Flatdogs Camp staff member and transferred to the camp, which is located just outside the South Luangwa National Park. If you arrive on the morning flight, there will be time to settle into camp and have some lunch before your first afternoon game drive. Your guide will come meet you to discuss your interests before you head into the park at around 16h00, ready to explore this magnificent wilderness. As the sun starts to set, your guide will find the perfect sundowner spot where you will get to stretch your legs and take in the view. Once the sun has set, you will carry on gameviewing with a spotlight, searching for some of our interesting nocturnal residents, like the leopard, lion, porcupine, civet, genet, owls and hyaena. You will then return to camp just after 20h00 when the Park closes, in time for dinner!
Your mornings at Flatdogs start early so that you can make the most of the light and when the animals are at their most active. A light breakfats will be served when you wake up before you head out at 06h00 on a morning safari, exploring the park, taking the sightings as they come, with your guide detailing all you are seeing and adding interesting observations drawn from his years of experience in the Park. You will head back to camp at around 10h00, in time for breakfast or a brunch/lunch type meal – whichever you prefer. Then there is time to relax during the heat of the day, enjoying a dip in the pool perhaps or a siesta after your early start. The Luangwa is well known for its walking safaris, which is an unforgettable way to experience the Park, so if you would like to walk instead of drive, please let us know so we can organize this for you. Tea and cake will be served at about 15h30 before you head out for your afternoon activity, followed by sundowners and dinner. You will spend 3 nights at Flatdogs Camp before journeying on to Luambe Camp, located in the Luambe National Park.
“Flatdogs is the laid-back jewel of the South Luangwa. Perfectly located right on the banks of the Luangwa River and famously known for it’s top-notch dining , it is our go-to camp to stay when we need to stay in Mfuwe but have convenient access to the national park. What’s more, it is one of the best places in the entire area to be near elephants!”

Spend 4 nights in the remote wilderness of Luambe National Park
You will be collected from Flatdogs Camp at around 0830 for your road transfer to Luambe National Park. Enjoy a 4 hour road transfer, allowing you ample time to take in the new surroundings, diverse wildlife as well as experience the astonishing birdlife encountered along the way. Luambe National Park is one of Africa’s best kept secrets. There are only 4 safari tents at the camp, so a maximum of 8 guests have the entire Park to themselves. The camp has been designed to take in the stunning sweep of the Luangwa in front, with its enormous pod of hippo gathered together in incredible numbers, adding to your sense of discovery as you arrive.
The tents use solar lighting and water heating and have ensuite facilities. From camp, the daily routine is similar to that at Flatdogs, with morning and afternoon activities organized for you, to take in as much of this beautiful wilderness as possible as as being a part of their ongoing conservation activities. Luambe is so isolated that you have a real feeling of discovery as you explore the Park – you could be the first to find a new waterhole or an owl’s nest or sign of roan and eland – the Park has been so untouched over the years. On your final morning, will be transferred by road back to Mfuwe airport to connect with your outbound flight.
“Thank you for the most extraordinary wonderful stay! The camp and staff were exceptional, everything was just perfect! It is very rare to have access to such a remote wildlife area and to stay in such a beautiful and setting.”
